Welcome to the Academy for Little Learners Spanish Page!
Teaching a foreign language to our students is essential to their future success.
Plaza del Sol, Madrid
At Academy, we realize that our world is globalizing more and more every day, and we recognize the need to teach our students about the lifestyles and customs of others, especially those in the Spanish-speaking world. The Spanish language is the fourth most spoken language in the world (after Mandarin, Hindi, and English), however, if you count only native speakers, it ranks third, before English. It is estimated that the Hispanic population of the United States will increase to more than fifty million by the year 2015. Additionally, Spanish is the second most spoken second language in Europe, after English. As our world globalizes and urbanizes, it is essential that the next generation learn how to communicate with people from all different backgrounds. We hope that our preschool Spanish program helps them to do just that.
From Miss Anna and Miss Mariela:
One of our main goals in the Spanish program is to integrate the whole language into the children's daily routines. For this reason, we come into the classrooms at different times throughout the day in order to incorporate Spanish into all of their various activities, including circle time, center time, story time, and free play. We use the same materials and methods that the children love and to which they are accustomed, such as songs, art projects, stories, flannel board activities, games, and finger plays. We feel that it is important to use the whole language with the children, rather than an English sentence with a few inserted Spanish words. Children have the BEST brains for learning language, and they are naturally equipped to separate the grammar out on their own. We learn Spanish together the same way they learned their first language: by play.
